If you rent your home or you simply just don’t want nail holes in your walls you may be wondering this holiday season how to hang Christmas decorations without damaging walls. Decorating for the holidays can be so much fun but it’s not fun seeing all the tiny nail or screw holes you had to make and then patch after the holidays are over.
Fortunately, there are really easy ways to hang most Christmas decorations such as wreaths, garland, wood plaques, and picture frames without having to cause any damage to your walls or ceiling.
Use Command Hooks For Christmas Decorating
The easiest and safest way that I have found to hang any type of season decorations in my home (or even on the outside of home) is by using Command Hooks.
There are all kinds of Command Hooks from small decorating clips to large wreath hooks that you can use to hang just about any type of Christmas decoration. They even have spring clips and cord clips as well.
Not only do you have a variety of hooks to choose from but they are so very simple to use.
All you have to do is follow the directions by placing the adhesive strip onto the wall and then removing the other liner from the strip and placing your hook onto it. Wait 20-30 minutes for the hook to really set onto the adhesive strip and then simply hang your decoration.
When it is time to remove the decoration you just take off the decoration from the hook and pull the tab on the strip part down slowly to fully get the adhesive to remove from the wall.
Be sure to follow the exact manufacturer’s directions for the hooks to ensure a damage-free removal. You don’t want to simply rush and pull the hook off as this will cause paint to come with the hook.
The Command Hooks aren’t just for wreaths and pictures but you can use them to hang ornaments and lights in your home as well. You can string ornaments and then wrap the string around the hooks to have them hanging down off the wall or even your ceiling.
You can even use the hooks to hang your stockings from the fireplace mantle as they can be stuck on top of the mantle and then covered with garland or stick them underneath the mantle and hang the stockings that way.
The only drawback to using Command Hooks for decorating during Christmas is that it can add up in price even though you’ll find that the hooks are rather inexpensive.
To save some money I make sure that I keep all my hooks when I am done so that I can re-use the actual hooks next year and not have to spend money on buying the hooks anymore but use up the extra strips that come with them and then just buy replacement strips which are cheaper than buying the hooks over again.
Another thing that I have done in the past is that I have simply used the nails or screws that are already in the wall and gotten creative on the best way to hang the decorations. I’ll take down most of the everyday decor items and instead hang up the Christmas ones in their place so I don’t have to add any more holes to the walls.
This may not work for all people especially people who rent who don’t want to put any holes in the walls to begin with.
If you are really set against causing any type of damage to your walls but you still want to decorate your home for Christmas, then I would recommend you check out all the different Command Hooks to find ones that will fit your decorating needs.
The hooks have been the best way that I have found to decorate for Christmas without causing damage to walls or anything else in your home.
