Counting down the days until Christmas is probably one of the most popular holiday traditions for families. If you have young kids you can easily start this tradition in your home with some of the wonderful Advent calendars for toddlers.
Advent calendars for toddlers are a great idea because it helps them understand time a bit more as you can explain every “sleep” counts as a day on the calendar. It also allows you to explain the real meaning behind Christmas or get them involved in some fun Christmas activities in the days before the holiday.
Here are great Advent calendars and Christmas countdown calendars for toddlers as well as preschool aged children.
The Best Advent Calendars for Toddlers
The soft fabric Advent calendars that feature Velcro pieces that can be placed on the calendar work really well for toddlers. They are plush and soft for little ones and your child can have fun placing the new piece on the calendar each month.
Here are some great calendars to choose from.
With each of these calendars your child can create their own scene as they place one piece on the calendar each day.
All of the pieces are stored right on the fabric calendar so you don’t have to worry about losing them.
Your child can design any scene they want with the pieces even change it up every day to their liking. Being able to place the pieces anywhere gives them that independent and creative feeling that encourages them to really look forward to the Advent calendar every day.
Kids as young as a year old would have no problem taking out the fabric piece and placing it on the calendar. It can easily be a Christmas calendar that you start at a young age and continue using even as they get older.
These calendars even make cute Christmas decorations to hang on the wall.
Toy Advent Calendars for Toddlers
If you want something a bit different than the hanging fabric calendars above you can also consider buying a toy Advent calendar for your toddler as well.
Just keep in mind most of these calendars are geared towards older toddlers or preschoolers as some will have smaller pieces. There are a few that are recommended for ages 1 or 2 years and older though.
One of the new toy advent calendars introduced is perfect for toddlers as it is made by Fisher Price and features all kinds of fun Little People figures and accessories.
There are 24 Little People characters and accessories for the 24 days leading up to Christmas. Some of the items included are a snowman, Santa and an elf, presents, a dog, and a girl who likes to ski.
This is probably one of the funniest advent calendars for toddlers as it is recommended for ages 1-5 years old and the figures can be played with all year long.
Although I recommend the Little People calendar, here are some more choices for toddlers as well.
The Vtech Go!Go! Smart Animals advent calendar is new for 2017 and sure to be a hit even with younger toddlers. It is recommended for ages 1-5 years old.
It comes with 1 smart point Christmas reindeer along with 23 other accessories including a sled, Christmas tree, snowman, and even a baby reindeer.
The smart point reindeer plays songs and other sounds which keeps kids entertained. It will even interact with your other Vtech Go!Go! smart animal points so you can play with it all year long.
The Paw Patrol advent calendar is really popular with kids and comes with all sorts of cool toys and accessories on each day. This would be perfect for any young child who loves these pups.
You get the size pups along with other fun accessories and Paw Patrol friends including a penguin, bunny, and of course Chicaletta.

Cheap Advent Calendars for Kids
If you don’t want to spend a lot of money right now for an Advent calendar then consider a sticker Advent calendar for your young child. Although these are not reusable you can get them for a really low price (usually for around $5) and can help you save some money this year while still starting this tradition with your child.
Toddlers will love putting the stickers on each day and since it won’t cost you a lot of money you don’t have to worry if they get a little “sloppy” as long as they are having fun.
There are also cheap chocolate Advent calendars that you can get for your child as well. Some parents may not like the fact that their child gets a piece of chocolate each day, but the chocolate is small and they are only getting the one piece a day.
Here are some chocolate Advent calendars for kids that are pretty inexpensive.
With the two nativity scene Advent calendars above you not only get the chocolate each day but in the inside of the door there is also a Bible verse that tells the story of the birth of Jesus.
With the “Santa’s Here” calendar you get chocolate and there is the “Twas the Night Before Christmas” story on each door.
These calendars can usually be bought for around $5-$6 (although the Madelaine name brand one is quite a bit more) and can be a great way to teach your child the real Christmas story or get them excited about Santa coming.
The countdown to Christmas calendars for kids are just one way that I like to countdown the days to Christmas with my family.
As you can see that even though these Advent calendars are great for younger kids most of them are loved by older kids and adults as well. You can start the tradition of Advent calendars early with your child and enjoy getting to countdown the days till Christmas and teach your child all about the holiday.
These Christmas Advent calendars for toddlers aren’t only fun but can be educational and great way to make memories with your child this holiday.
